We had a great night, crystal clear, saw about 20 odd in an hour. My youngest was thrilled to see his first shooting stars :)

Also had great milky way views, I'll post some pics once I'm back, though they are with a new pocket camera which I'm still getting to grips with. Caught one in a shot of the milky way though, entirely by accident.

...and here we are again. Peak at the end of the week but any clear night this week you will see them.

Mrs Judo and I were talking about this yesterday. It'll be our first perseid show abroad. Will have to remember to keep an eye out.

Good luck then Judo. Hope you get better skies than us. The forecast isn't great here with just tonight to be clear. I went out for a while but didn't see any. Seen a sporadic but I did see a cracking Iridium flare, the first I have seen by chance. Went on the heavens-above site and it was Iridium 86 only 3km away which is why it was so bright. ISS was passing at the time but in a different part of the sky and I missed it. I'll try again throughout the week if it clears. Have a good time Judo!

Last two nights have been clouded over. Slight chance tonight but no chance after that for me. Pity, as this year could be a spectacular one! http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-northern-ireland-37035647

Tonight is to be bad but last night after midnight was pretty good. Stayed out for an hour and a half and seen dozens including a couple of really good ones. Seen a sporadic and also a few nice bright satellites.

Also brought out the 15x70 binoculars on a tripod. Beautiful sights at this time of year. M31 is huge but by far my favourite sight is the double cluster in Perseus. Breathtaking. It is like a jewellery box on a good clear night and can actually be noticed by the naked eye as a patch between Cassiopeia and Perseus. M13 globular cluster easy to see in Hercules. Also easy to see the two main components of Epsilon Lyrae the double double star even with the naked eye, but I would need to whip out my 4" ( ;) ) to split those further into four.

With all this NMS being played take a break and go look into the night sky for a different and humbling perspective. You don't need binoculars but if you have a pair then take a look at the Milky Way and also the open clusters. Superb!

I saw a couple last night when I let the dog out :)

Very lucky where we have moved to, set way back from the main street lights, only light in my back garden comes from the moon :)

Getting near that time again folks. Moon is going to get in the way this year again I'm afraid. I seen a few already but will be out over the weekend if the clouds stay away.

I shall be in Glencoe so hoping for some nice clear sky. Forecast isn't pretty though.
